Steamed wheat puttu

Ingredients:

wheat flour roasted 2 cups
coconut grated
sugar
salt
water for mixing the flour

Method:

1. Heat a kadai and add 2 cups of wheat flour and roast till a nice flavour of the flour comes out.

2. Turn off the flame. In a vessel add this flour, little salt and 2 or 3 tsp. of sugar according to your taste.

3. Mix well by adding water little by little so that all the flour should be mixed properly, so that the flour must be in sandy texture.

4. Leave this flour to rest for 10 mins. In puttu kuzhal (this usually we find in kerala and tamilnadu shops.

5. Add a thin layer of grated coconut and add one handful of flour next. Then add a layer of coconut and then flour. Repeat this till the flour reaches the top of the puttu kuzhal and finally finish again with coconut.

6. In the bottom vessel of puttukuzhal add water till half of the vessel and allow to boil. Place the puttu kuzhal above the bottom vessel and cover it with a lid which has holes on it. (We get this along with that vessel)

7. Once the steam starts coming out of the lid leave for 2 mins and remove the kuzhal from the vessel with a cloth.

8. Remove the lid and with a long handled spoon or stick and press the backside of the kuzhal towards inside. Steamed wheat puttu comes out from the other side.

9. Goes nicely with chole kurma or sambar. Sugar and banana mixed with this is really a mouth watering and kids love this puttu with sugar and banana mixture.
