Barracuda/Sheela fish varutharachathu


Ingredients:

Barracuda/Sheela fish 1/2kg
turmeric powder 1tsp.
tamarind one lemon size
drumstick 1
curry leaves 6
salt

For frying coconut:

coconut grated 1 cup
pepper corns 1tsp
methi seeds 1/2tsp.
dry red chillie 7
coriander seeds 1 tsp.
garlic 5 cloves
curry leaves 10

Method:

1. Clean the fish and add turmeric powder and salt and marinate for 15-20mins.


2. Heat 2 tsp. of oil in a pan and add all the ingredients for frying and fry till dark brown.

3. Allow this mixture to cool and make it to a fine paste in a blender. Keep aside.

4. Soak tamarind in a bowl of water. After sometime mix the tamarind in water with hand and squeeze the tamarind out. Filter it and keep aside.

5. In a kadai add the marinated fish and the coconut paste. Add the tamarind water and salt.

6. Add the sliced drumstick also along with this. Stir well slowly. You can add little curry leaves on the top of this mixture. Add water if necessary.

7. Now turn on the flame and allow to cook. Once it starts boiling leave for 5 mins and reduce the flame. Cover it partially and cook.

8. After sometime the water content starts reducing. Once it gets a gravy texture turn off the flame.

9. Cover this cooked fish for 15 mins and then serve.

This is really a yummy receipe which is prepared mainly in kerala. Adding drumstick with this, really gives a nice taste and flavour. Goes nicely with rice.
