Drumstick Sambar


Ingredients:

dal - 1cup
drumsticks - 3 or 4
onion - 2
tomato -1
sambar powder - 3 teaspoons
chillie powder - 1 teaspoon
turmeric powder - 2 pinches
cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
asfoetida powder/hing - little
green chillies - 2
tamarind water - 1 (gooseberry size lemon in 2 cups water)
coriander leaves
curry leaves

Method:

1. Cook dal and mash it. Keep aside.

2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard, curry leaves, green chillies and onion. Saute it for 5 mins and add tomatoes and saute again.

3. Now add drumsticks cut into medium size pieces. Saute again for 5 mins. Add salt and add water to cook. Close the lid of the pan.

4. Drumsticks won't take more time to cook. So check often whether it is cooked. Once it got cooked add chillie powder, turmeric powder and sambar powder.

5. Cook for 2 mins. Now add tamarind water and allow to boil for 2mins and add cooked dal.

6. Add water if necessary. Add asafoetida powder and jeera powder and stir well and cook for 1 min. Garnish with coriander leaves.
